While
most of the cold-hardy agaves of this area have gray to bluish leaves,
this one stands out with its beautiful, dark green rosettes. In case
you've wanted to grow it, the Tequila Agave will not survive our winters
- but we can console ourselves with plantations of the Pulque Agave instead.
Having tasted the vile brew in Mexico (from a homemade batch - out of courtesy
to my host), I would personally use the alcohol for internal combustion
engines, not internal consumption. Grows over 6' high and wide and
does best in full sun, in a location with good drainage. Requires
no supplemental irrigation once established.
(Feed with 3 to 5 Agriform
21-gram,
2-year fertilizer tablets at the bottom of the hole at planting time.) |
