These are grown from
a plant I found over 20 years ago near the top of a very high, wind-swept
mountain between Monterrey and Saltillo in northeastern Mexico. The
pads are covered with short golden-brown spines. These are best admired
when backlit by a setting sun. Grows best in
full sun, in a location with good drainage. Requires no supplemental
irrigation once established.

2-year fertilizer tablets at the bottom of the hole at planting time.) |
