Glossy,
aromatic foliage graces this insect and disease resistant large shrub.
It can grow up 12' to 14' high and specimens are often limbed up to create
a small tree effect. A related plant, Myrica pusilla, is similar,
but dwarfer. Both can thrive in the sodden, compacted soils found
around new construction. The flowers are insignificant, though the
clusters of tiny purple berries (covered with a grayish, waxy bloom) are
interesting. Grows in full sun to half-day sun. Looks best
if given a deep watering every two weeks during a dry summer.
