Glossy,
aromatic foliage graces this insect and disease resistant mid-sized shrub.
It can grow up 4' to 6' high and wide with basal branching that keeps it
from becoming leggy. Like the related Myrica cerifera, it
can thrive in the sodden, compacted soils found around new construction.
The flowers are insignificant, though the clusters of tiny purple berries
(covered with a grayish, waxy bloom) are interesting. Grows in full
sun to half-day sun. Looks best if given a deep watering every two
weeks during a dry summer.
