A
most unusual triploid chimera with a massive red stem to 10’ having one
layer of "red" tissue fitted like a glove over a two part "green" core.
The leaves are enormous paddles, over 2’ wide. Chimeras are unstable,
the red and green parts tending to separate. Some of the basal branches
may revert to all green – compost them. This edible banana has maroon
to dark purple-black fruit with orange flesh and good flavor. Protect
from extreme cold. Grows in full sun to half-day sun. Looks
best if given a deep watering every week during a dry summer.
(Feed with 5 to 7 Agriform
21-gram,
2-year fertilizer tablets at the bottom of the hole at planting time.) |
